Mater Dei is a co-educational catholic primary school catering for children from Prep to Year 6 where everyone is welcomed, nurtured, known by name and encouraged to grow in the footsteps of Christ.
Opened in 1951, by the Sisters of Charity, Mater Dei has educated generations of children from the local community and beyond. In light of our school motto: “Caritas” (caring) our hope for our students is that they are able to continually demonstrate "Caritas” to guide them in their life journey.
Mater Dei’s place in the Ashgrove community is well-regarded, and is characterised by a strong sense of community which is readily evident by parent involvement across the school in our active Parents and Friends Association, Class Parent Representatives and support of our parish, being just a sample.
Our teachers are passionate and qualified professionals, dedicated to the holistic learning environment which caters for each child’s academic, physical, social and emotional development within a balanced and excellent educational program based on Catholic values.
Mater Dei focuses on assisting students to reach their full academic potential, develop the Catholic faith and acquire social confidence and responsibility. In our school, families become part of the community which seeks positive Christian values for their children. It is a place where lasting friendships develop.
Mater Dei Catholic Primary School is renowned for:
