At Mater Dei Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to learn and grown in a safe, respectful and nurturing environment. Our approach to behaviour support is grounded in our Catholic values and our commitment to developing confident, capable and compassionate learners.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) is the framework we use to help students understand what it means to be a responsible member of our school community. PB4L emphasises teaching, modelling and reinforcing the behaviours that help all learners to flourish.
Our PB4L Mater Dei Matrix (below) outlines clear expectations for how we learn, interact and care for one another at Mater Dei. This shared language is used consistently across the school so that children experience the same messages, throughout their learning journey with us.
You will find our Mater Dei Matrix expectations:
- displayed in every classroom and learning space
- taught explicitly as part of daily routines
- discussed at school assemblies
- reinforced through our school newsletter so families can use the same language at home.
At Mater Dei Catholic Primary School, behaviour support is not just about managing challenges-it is about equipping students with the skills they need to navigate change, build resilience and take responsibility for their choices. Our Student Behaviour Support Plan focuses on helping children:
- recognise and mange their emotions
- adapt to new situations
- make positive, respectful decisions
- build healthy relationships with peers and teachers
Through this strengths-based approach, we aim to guide students towards independence, self-discipline and a strong sense of personal responsibility.
