Welcome to our website.....

Mater Dei School, Ashgrove West, is a co-educational Catholic Primary School providing educational excellence for students from Prep to Year Seven. We are a two stream school from Prep to Year 4, with a single class in Year 5, 6 and 7. We belong to the Parish of St Johns Wood, The Gap.

The Mater Dei School Community is a vibrant community where children, parents, teachers and staff aim to live out our school motto “Caritas” (caring) in all that we say and in all that we do. Student learning and growth are our primary focus and we aim to develop children as learners and as people, by linking knowledge, understandings, capabilities and values in a way that develops the child as an active member of their community and society. Faith and prayer are also integral to everyday life at Mater Dei. Helping each other to nurture a relationship with a loving God and actively seeking ways to make Jesus real in our lives is central to everything we do.

Mater Dei is a place where there are numerous opportunities to enrich the lifelong learning of children. We offer a variety of activities including an instrumental music program, dance lessons, Japanese for Year 3- 7, an Arts program, swimming program, GO SPORTS program, tennis lessons, speech and drama lessons and camps and excursions. We also have an outside school hours care centre.

Celebrating Catholic Education in QueenslandOur staff are dedicated and committed to providing the very best educational opportunities for all who enrol at Mater Dei. As you navigate around this website, I hope you are provided with an informative insight into who we are and what we provide at Mater Dei. If you have any further questions, or are interested in joining our community, please do not hesitate to make contact.

REPORT CARDS
Please note that next Wednesday 19th June, you should receive your child’s report card for Semester One. If your family is not at school at the time of report card distribution, we will post these reports home on the last day of Term 2. You will receive information from your child’s teacher outlining the timing of the Parent /Teacher interviews for the beginning of Term 3. I encourage you to book in for a meeting with your child’s teacher as this is another important way of gaining an understanding of how your child is progressing at school.

SCHOOL APP
Remember to check on our school app for important dates, activities and alerts. We can use the alert to post notices to our school community (for example, the bus on the Yr 5 excursion has broken down and will be delayed). To download the app to your phone, follow these instructions:

ACCESSING THE MATER DEI APP
On your iPhone go to your browser e.g. Safari and enter the URL www.classapps.com.au. You will then get a login screen which will ask for school name and password. These have been set up as:
School name:   MDAshgrove
Password:        MDAshgrove
After this loads, you will be given the option to add as an icon. Please do so. This will then put an icon of our school’s logo onto your phone. You are then ready to see the live app by pushing the icon.

The first time you use it you will be asked to add it to your home screen. Please do so as this sizes the app appropriately. You can also load onto Android or tablets. Each android is slightly different to load onto home screens so it is difficult to list all processes for loading.

MATER DEI DANCE
There will be NO DANCE CLASSES ON TUESDAY 18TH JUNE due to the school Athletics Carnival.

PARENTS & FRIENDS ASSOCIATION
Our next P&F meeting will be held next Monday 17th June from 7pm in the staffroom. At this meeting we will be wrapping up the Trivia Night and discussing plans for our Sustainability Day in Term 3. We will also be receiving an update from the MIM committee. Everyone is welcome.

The latest newsletter from the P&F Federation is available and contains detailed information about Catholic schools and funding issues – please click here if you would like to read it.

Catholic CampaignANNUAL CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN
The Annual Catholic Campaign gives us the opportunity to act together as one Church family to support ministries and services that no single parish or school can offer. Every gift, regardless of the size, is vital to the success of the Annual Catholic Campaign.

Let us pray for those who require the assistance of Centacare, our Church's social outreach agency. Like Jesus, may we accept the responsibility of caring for those who are disadvantaged and marginalised in our community. May our involvement in the Annual Catholic Campaign make a tremendous difference and brighten the lives of countless people.

ANNOUNCING…  THE ART OF RECYCLING
A festival of sustainability

In the coming weeks, students will commence artworks for an exhibition in Term 3 that will showcase how recycled materials can become works of art. The art show will be part of a festival that will teach us ways of integrating sustainability into our community-life at Mater Dei.

It will be held on Friday, July 26 at Mater Dei. It will feature: Student Art Exhibition; Markets; Café; Eco Activities

If you would like to volunteer be part of The Art of Recycling event - or if you know of a business or community group that would like to participate– please email sustainability@materdepandf.org.au  or phone Kate on 3366 9695 or 0402 913 520
