The children in Year 4 to Year 6 participate in a camp experience as part of the curriculum provided at Mater Dei.
Typically, Year 4 and 5 participate in a two day/three night day camp program, while the senior students travel to Canberra to visit many attractions to support the curriculum including: Old Parliament House, Parliament House, The National Museum and War Memorial. The costs of attending the camp and visiting Canberra are in addition to school fees paid. This is usually a four night/five day program.
Class teachers organise appropriate excursions for their students that will further enhance a topic they are covering. Sometimes parents are invited to help out on these occasions. Parents volunteering to come and help as a group leader are asked to make necessary arrangements for their toddlers. The role of the parent on excursions is to assist the teachers supervise the students (cost of entry will be paid by the parent). Permission notes must be signed and returned to the school before a student can depart on an excursion.
